Both men’s and women’s Track and Field teams do well in South Coast Conference Prelims

Both the Cerritos College men’s and women’s Track and Field teams placed second in April 24 preliminary finals at El Camino College Compton Center.

Both the men and women’s teams finished behind Mt. San Antonio College in both categories.

The mens team was blown out by a little under two hundred points, while the women’s team lost by 16 points.

“Im proud of my team. We are moving on to SoCal finals and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season,” said Larrisha Fields, who participates in the shot put, hammer throw, and discus throw.

The women’s team came out in first place for the shot put and the discus events.

“At the beginning, I struggled but toward the end I picked it up really well. I think i did pretty well because my teammates stayed in there with me and continued to cheer me on,” said shot put participant Destini Poplar.

Although the mens team was blown out by Mt. SAC, they placed first in the 400 meter dash, the 5000 meter relay, 10000 meter relay and many other events.

Many participants did not win events, but they did end up qualifying for the Southern California preliminary.

Long Jump participant Seth George is quoted as saying, “I placed fifth so I’m going to SoCal so I feel good seeing that i just started jumping again for the first time of the year.”

13 male and 12 female athletes qualified for the SoCal preliminaries which will be held this Saturday at San Diego Mesa College.
